SPHHS Jobs Database

Welcome! Thank you for using the SPHHS searchable job opportunities website!

To create a new centralized resource for jobs, internships, and fellowships, and to cut down on Listserv traffic, the GW School of Public Health and Health Services has launched this new jobs website.

How to use this new resource:

This new website is searchable by keyword as well as by free text. Search terms can also identify full-time and part-time jobs, fellowships, and internships. Simply type in a keyword, or words into the search box to search job titles only. Or click on "advanced search" below it to search for specific text within the entire jobs website.

The website is open to SPHHS students and alumni and also to the greater public health community. It contains information about all job postings that are forwarded to the SPHHS Office of Student Academic and Career Development Services at sphhsjob@gwu.edu.

Remember, submit all jobs to the new email address!

To submit a potential job, internship, or fellowship opportunity for posting on the new website, please send a detailed email to sphhsjob@gwu.edu. Submissions will be reviewed and posted within 48 hours.

Please do not post jobs directly to the SPHHS Listserv!!

If you have any questions, please contact James Miller at sphjwm@gwumc.edu or 202-994-5407.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) established the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) to attract outstanding candidates with strong leadership potential. Over the past few years, we have hired over 300 ELs from top graduate schools with an emphasis on recruitment and hiring in career tracks that have Department-wide appeal. The goal of the ELP is to recruit well-qualified, exceptional leaders with an interest in public policy and commitment to public service.

The ELP, a 2-year developmental program, recruits individuals in the following career tracks: Public Health, Social Science, Information Technology, Scientist, Administrative, and Human Resources. Over the course of the 2-year program, interns create a Career Development Plan; participate in extensive leadership training sessions, and four 90-day rotations to gain a Department-wide perspective on HHS' mission and programs. This program has resulted in a pool of high-performing individuals with strong leadership potential and technical competence.

HHS has already begun recruitment for this competitive career opportunity. We are seeking to partner with some of our Nations top Academic Institutions and Professional Organizations in hopes that you will share information regarding the ELP with your students and encourage them to apply. Please read eligibility requirements at

The application period for the 2009 recruitment cycle ends at midnight on February 6, 2009. Applicants will be required to submit two letters of recommendation and to elaborate on specific experiences by answering essay questions as part of the application process.
