Natella Rakhmanina is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Infection Diseases and Department of Pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Rakhmanina received her MD degree at People's Friendship University in Moscow, Russia. She completed two residency training programs - one in Russia and one in the US and pursued Allergy/Immunology Fellowship training at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, MO. Dr. Rakhmanina has worked in pediatric medicine in the Netherlands. Since 2000 she had focused her career on the HIV medicine. Prior to joining the GWU and CNMC in 2002, she has worked at Columbus Children's Hospital and Ohio State University, where she was a Program Director for Ryan White Title IV Pediatric HIV Program. She is board certified in pediatrics and HIV medicine.

Dr. Rakhmanina focuses her research on epidemiology and treatment of HIV infection in children and adolescent. The particular areas of her interest include pharmacology and pharmacogenetics of antiretroviral therapy in pediatrics. The primary goal of this clinical research is to optimize and individualize treatment of HIV infected pediatric patients She has also completed several projects on epidemiology of pediatric HIV infection and is currently the leading investigator on the study addressing the acceptance of the rapid HIV testing in healthcare settings by the parents, caregivers and adolescents in Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Dr. Rakhmanina is a preceptor at MPH program at School of Public Health and Health Services at GWU, and is a member of the GWU HIV/AIDS Institute.
